Rekindle app

For the record, though it's not mentioned anywhere in the app, I call the Terresian Descender Reis should his name ever be necessary. Because Ter-reis-sia. I'm so creative.

IC Information
Character Name: Pasca Kanonno
Character Canon: Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology [OU]
Character Age/Gender: Actual age unknown, but much younger than what she looks, which is about 14-15.
Canon Point: After the battle with Aurora, while the Descender is fighting his way to Widdershin in Gilgulim's core.
Character Canon History: The world of Pasca was a dying one, where humans would carelessly use mana, the energy of all living things. Usually, mana is produced and distributed by a giant plant called the World Tree, but over time, the Tree lost that ability. Wars were fought over what little mana was left, only serving to make Pasca's situation even worse. Some of Pasca's inhabitants saw what was being done to their world, and prayed to the World Tree to bestow upon them a Descender, a warrior created from the World Tree's mana to save the world from destruction. The World Tree answered their prayers and Kanonno was born. However, instead of aiding the girl in her endeavor, they chose to become a collective consciousness called the Niata, that would watch over her from afar.

Kanonno constantly tried to do something, anything to save Pasca. But no matter what she did, it never worked, and things only got worse. All Pasca's inhabitants did was ignore her and continue what they were doing. All she could do was watch Pasca slowly go into a decline, decaying with each passing moment. The world she was born to protect, the world she was born to love, was dying. And there was nothing anyone could do about it. The state of Pasca got worse and worse until Kanonno just couldn't take it anymore. Rather than watch the people of Pasca cause their own destruction, she brought it upon them herself. She eradicated the cause of her world's decay, but in turn, gave Pasca nothing to exist for. With the humans gone, the balance of life on Pasca was ruined. The World Tree no longer had the power to sustain itself, let alone the power to restore humanity. Kanonno couldn't do anything more to save Pasca. She was ready to give up and let everything fall apart -- until Widdershin appeared. On a quest to take the mana of other worlds, Widdershin struck a deal with Kanonno. "Partake with me the mana of other worlds, and Pasca will see a new dawn of mankind." Wanting to make up for what she did to her home, wanting to see her home full of happy people, what else could she do other than take that offer?

And so she started to work for Widdershin, along with Aurora, another Descender that had lost her world, by helping him terrorize other worlds, weaken their World Trees, and steal their mana to feed to Gilgulim, Widdershin's world that had fallen simply due to age.

After helping feed so many worlds to Gilgulim, they arrived at a world called Terresia. Kanonno was assigned to attack the tree to weaken it, but it proved too strong for her. She was sent flying and ended up unconscious outside of Ailily, a town situated on the roots of the World Tree. There, a young man named Chester Barklight found her, and when she woke up, she had lost all her memories, save for her name. Chester offered to let her stay at his place, not wanting to leave an amnesiac girl on her own. Living with Chester, she came to know the people of Ailily as well, and joined Ad Libitum, the guild Chester was a part of, to give something back to the people who were so kind to her. Kanonno quickly made her way into the hearts of those at Ailily, learning the ropes of Ad Libitum, and becoming a capable guild member. Without her memories, her driving force was that by meeting as many people as possible would lead her to finding out her origins and family, to find out where she came from and what exactly were the memories she once had.

However, that was not an easy task. Ganser, the man in control of Ailily, closed it off from any travel in and out of the city. His reasoning was that anyone trying to get into Ailily was after the secrets of the World Tree, which was the only thing protecting Ailily from the Devourer (which was actually pieces of Gilgulim that “devoured” the mana of the land it was on.). Ad Libitum, who were against Ganser, had a way of getting in and out of town to meet the needs of the people, and while fulfilling a request at the Foot of the World tree, she was almost captured by some of Ganser's soldiers until a mysterious boy and a small creature showed up and attacked the soldiers to leave her alone. That was how she met the Terresian Descender and Mormo.

And then the rest is on the wiki.
Character Personality:
Kanonno is a girl that does her best to be kind to everyone and get along with them. She moves with the Descender from city to city, and quickly becomes acclimated to her new surroundings by becoming friends with the local Ad Libitum chapter, and through them, with the people of that city. Originally, this was because she wanted to network with as many people as possible when she had amnesia, believing she would find a clue to her "past". However, it could also be said it's also just in her nature to be nice to others. For example, she offers to help out at Rutee/Nanaly's orphanage for free without being asked when told about their financial troubles, and she buys treats for the kids around town just because she doesn't know how else to spend her money.

In addition, she's absolutely dedicated to helping people. She loves her work at Ad Libitum, and never skips out on it or does things halfway. Part of this might be her nature as a Descender-- as they are beings born to save the world, that also entails helping the people in it. Add that to how she feels indebted to the people of Terresia that took her in and accepted her. She wants to return the favor by accepting and helping the people she comes by. She's a bit of a workaholic, telling Chester that she likes doing chores and doing things on her own, even after a hard day's work.

Unfortunately, sometimes she puts herself on the backburner when helping others, usually when it concerns more important jobs. Once when in charge of evacuating prisoners, they were almost captured again, but she sacrificed herself to get them to safety. She puts the safety of others and her job before her own self, but at the same time, she does so because she trusts her fellow members of Ad Libitum to get her out of a bind, and she would do the same for them.

Outside of work, it's evident in the way she acts that she's young. Literally, especially so, but she's supposed to be a girl in her mid-teens. On multiple occasions, she misses out on social cues or innuendos, either interpreting them incorrectly, or being oblivious to them altogether. One time, she didn't know what a wife was, and thought it was an occupation of someone that cooked and cleaned for other people. When told the proper definition, she complained that being dedicated to one person is a waste, preferring to help/cook/clean for as many people as possible, showing her view on relationships is not the standard one.

She worked at a bar for a short while, and the patrons told her that she had a girlish charm about her. In other words, not only is she young, she's feminine. It's a bit of a surprise when you think about how she's a girl that is hardworking and goes out and hunts down monsters, but it's true. Though she's never been mentioned to care about her appearance, she wears a dress, and just has a cutesy look about her. She picks out fresh strawberries when on jobs, and she worked as a babysitter for a short while, showing that she's good with children. To bring my point even further, she often giggles in conversations with her.

But beneath the exterior of this kind and polite girl lies a strong determination and sense of justice. Sure, she wanted to help people in order to find information, but she was also determined to free the people of Ailily from Ganser's tyranny, and eventually Terresia from Widdershin's destruction so that they too could live happily without worrying about an unfair ruler or someone trying to destroy their world. She's spoken up against Ganser and his army about their wrongdoings, and she's told Aurora that what they were doing is wrong. She refuses to stand back and watch people suffer. This trait of hers could even apply to when she was in Pasca-- rather than watch her people destroy themselves, she took it upon herself to take the blame and end their suffering.

Though as bright and cheerful as Kanonno might seem, the emotional scars of Pasca and her involvement with Widdershin run deep. There's an innocence lost from knowing that she isn't the normal human girl she wanted to be, that she was responsible for the deaths of an innumerable amount of people. It's a guilt that will never escape her, but she vows to never give up her right to look for the best solution, like she did when she gave Pasca to Widdershin.

She hides things, and yet is an open book.  Throughout the course of the game, Kanonno tells the Descender everything and anything that's bothering her-- and only the Descender (+Mormo). Rarely is it mentioned that other members of Ad Libitum have talked to her about her problems and insecurities. Most mention her positive attitude or she glosses over her insecurities. For example, Garr asks her about her amnesia, and she tells him that while it can be hard, she's happy for her new memories. Later on, she confesses to the Descender that it's much more than hard, she's afraid of what she forgot. She even flat out lies to Chester about his uncomfortable coddling (albeit badly) because she doesn't know if he can handle the truth. When she finally regained her memories, she was so shocked by what she had done that she runs away instead of trying to talking it out with someone. She even lies to the Descender early in their relationship-- she ignores everything he says about not having any memories, instead projecting her own amnesia onto him to relate. Over time, she comes to trust and rely on the Descender more, but it's not something that happens overnight, showing that she's not as quick to emotionally rely on people as she lets on.

All in all, she's not two-faced, but there is an exterior and interior personality to her. Kanonno does her best to get along with everyone and help where she can, and yet inside she's ridden with guilt and decides to protect other people's feelings over her own.

Character Abilities:
  • Fighting/Magic: Kanonno's an all-rounder that can use both swordplay and magic with an emphasis on attack and not support abilities. Her weapon is a large blue broadsword, about half as tall as she is. Her style of wielding it involves swinging it around in a spinning motion and bringing it up high before slamming it into the ground and scattering debris, so don't underestimate her strength, even if she doesn't show it off. She also has a small arsenal of spells at her disposal, and can use them without the need for any sigils or incantations. You can find her artes list here, or an exhibition video here.
  • Jill-of-all-trades: As an Ad Libitum member, she can do just about whatever's needed from her. People have all sorts of requests and needs, and so she does her best to be able to fulfill those needs. Things she has been specifically mentioned to be able to do are: hunting, gathering and identifying plants, food items, and ores/materials in the wild, babysitting, cooking, cleaning, waitressing, reconnaissance, and various rescue/evacuation tactics.
  • Quick Learner: Kanonno went from almost zero to a capable member of Ad Libitum in what was likely a very short time. This implies that she's adept at learning practical skills very quickly.
  • Mana Sensing: As a Descender, she can sense or smell the differences and condition of the mana/magical energy around her. For example, she can tell that the new World Tree seeds have Terresia's mana mixed into their original mana.
  • Mana Manipulation: Kanonno has only been shown to use this ability once: to prevent Gilgulim from draining Terresia's mana, she stops the flow of mana between the two.
Character Inventory: Clothes, her broadsword, and some various healing gels and first aid items.

First Person Introspection:
The first thing she did upon her arrival in an unfamiliar land was find the biggest tree in the area. It was nowhere near the size and grandeur of a World Tree, but still sizable in its own right. She didn't know quite why she wanted to find such a thing-- maybe she just wanted something to connect with. Every city, every town was different and she knew that, but this place was even more foreign than she was used to. So any reminder of home was a welcome one.

With a little effort, she climbed up onto one of the higher branches, hoping to get a feel of the city from above. The lights, the sounds, the slight breeze rustling the leaves... the personal feel of just her and her surroundings. She used to do this all the time on Pasca, and the familiarity eased some of the anxiety she had been feeling since her arrival.

She didn't know how to feel about this city just yet. They took her away from Terresia, from people who needed her, because they wanted her help themselves. Even if she wasn't trapped, she didn't think she would deny them, but it felt... wrong, forcefully taking people from their homes. What if they had taken him instead of her? She had been stopping Gilgulim from taking Terresia's mana, but she was confident that even without her help, he would stop Widdershin in time. On the other hand, if he was taken, Terresia was as good as devoured. Widdershin would win. It scared her to think of the possibility that there were other people that could be in that situation, and that they were unwillingly sacrificing their world in exchange for this world's prosperity.

She was okay because Terresia was in good hands. But what about everyone else?

And in that case, does she help Saeng Seong.... or the people trapped here with her?
